Match Reports 2005/2006 Season
Alderley Juniors draw 2-2 with Reddish (25 September 2005) Alderley Edge Juniors were a much improved side from last week against Cherry Tree Celtic. Alderley Juniors were fast out of the blocks with a well-taken goal from Oliver Jones. A quick break from Reddish brought the equalizer and a few minutes later a mix-up in the defence saw Reddish take the lead for the first time. However, Alderley Juniors would not be denied and Oliver Jones slotted in a well deserver equalizer just before half-time. In the second half both sides threatened with Reddish hitting the post. Neither side could find the winner and the game ended in a draw 2-2. Alderley Juniors earn hard-fought 2- 2 draw at New Mills Juniors (2 October 2005) Alderley Edge Juniors started promising on a rain-sodden pitch at New Mills. After 10 minutes, Oliver Jones was brought down in the penalty area and Max Penney duly obliged with a well-taken penalty. Shortly before the break, a speculative cross from New Mills Juniors was volleyed in at close range. Half-time 1 - 1. After the break, New Millls Juniors dominated without threatening the Alderley Juniors goal. Five minutes before time, a New Mills forward was alleged to have been brought down in the area and the referee awarded a penalty which was converted. Alderley Juniors mustered a number of attacks in the dying minutes. One of these was brilliantly taken by Chris Imiolek and in the last seconds, Oliver Jones could have given Alderley Juniors all the points. However, the ball sailed over the bar and the final score was a creditable 2 - 2 draw. Man of the Match was Max Penney. Alderley Juniors record 3 - 2 win against Bolllington (9 October 2005) This match was a scrappy contest between two teams that found passing and keeping the ball on the pitch a real effort. Bollington got the early advantage and scored midway through the first half through a good individual goal. Coach Paul Penney made a few substitutions at half time and Alderley Juniors' play slowly improved. Oliver Jones made the Bollington side pay with three well-taken individual goals and Bollington replied just before full-time to make the final score 3 -2 to Alderley Juniors. This was Alderley's first win of the season and Man of the Match was Matt Dobson. Alderley Juniors lose 4 - 2 to Cheadle & Gatley (30 October 2005) Alderley Juniors got a harsh lesson in finishing from Cheadle & Gatley Juniors and ended up losing a match they totally dominated. Apart from their goals, Cheadle & Gatley managed just one more shot on target. Alderley Juniors had more than 20 shots during the match, but managed to score only two. After a bright start when Alderley Juniors should have been in front, a well-taken corner saw C & G take the lead with a good header. C & G extended their lead through a break-away and some more hesitant defending. The half-time score of 0 - 3 was somewhat flattering for the away side. Alderley came back well in the second half and reduced the arrears through Oliver Jones and John Ashall. Just when the tide was turning in Alderley's favour, the referee awarded C & G a very dubious penalty which was converted. This took the stuffing out of the home side and sealed the game for C & G. The game then fizzled out without further chanced on either side. Man of the Match was Alex Jackson who had an excellent debut. Alderley Juniors crush hapless Spurley Hey 15 - 0 in Cup( 27 November 2005) Alderley Juniors beat Spurley Hey 15 - 0 in a one-sided match. Scorers were Max Petch (4), Dan Imiolek (3), Chris Imiolek (3), Matt Dobson (2), Oliver Jones, Alex Jackson and George Troup. (8 January 2006) Alderley Juniors booked their quarter final place in the Cup by beating Ryecroft Rangers 5-0 at Chorley Hall Lane. Ryecroft Rangers proved tough opposition and played well throughout the match. Alderley Juniors were somewhat fortunate to be 2-0 up at half-time through goals from Alex Jackson and Oliver Jones. Alderley Juniors bossed the second half and a third goal from Chris Imiolek sealed the match. Oliver Jones secured his hat-trick with two well taken goals in the last ten minutes. Unfortunately, Alderley Juniors lost Aaron Jennings with an injury after only 5 minutes and we hope his ankle is not too bad. The whole team played well with plenty of grit and effort. Alex Jackson was Man of the Match. Alderley Juniors beat Bollington United 5-1 (15 January 2006)Alderley Juniors won this tricky away fixture comfortably with first-half goals from Oliver Jones and Chris Imiolek and further goals from Oliver Jones, Chris Imiolek and Max Penney in the second half. After a bright start, Alderley Juniors could have been three goals up, but conceded an equalising goal after some sloppy defending. From then on, Alderley was content to play on the break and the Bollington defence could not cope with the speed and decisive play of the Alderley forwards. The whole team played with a lot of determination and on the back of this well-deserved win, Alderley Juniors are now slowly climbing the league table. Ryan Ford was Man of the Match. Great 3-2 win for Alderley Juniors against Reddish NE. (22 January 2006)Alderley Juniors excelled themselves on a cold Sunday afternoon away to title contenders Reddish North End. Games against Reddish have always been difficult and this one proved no exception. There was steel and determination in Alderley's play and Reddish had no answers to Alderley's counter attacks. Oliver Jones opened the score when dispossessing Reddish's full-back after 10 minutes, but Reddish equalised minutes later by converting a precise through-ball. Half-Time 1-1. In the second half, a quick break-away brought a stunning goal from Chris Imiolek, driving-in a weighted pass from Oliver Jones. Sustained Reddish pressure brought an equaliser late in the second half, but again Alderley counter attacked and caught out the Reddish defence for John Ashall to drill-in the winner. Man of the Match was George Troup. Alderley Juniors draw 0 - 0 with Cheadle & Gatley (5 February 2006)Alderley Juniors fought out a well-earned draw against a gritty Cheadle & Gatley side. The pitch was heavy and this contributed to a match of few chances. The Alderley defence was solid and the midfield supported well. The few chances that came Alderley's way were either smothered in the mud or prey for the excellent Cheadle & Gatley goalkeeper. Andrew Metzelaar stopped what looked a certain goal and at the other end, Lady Luck just did not smile on the Alderley forwards. A draw was the right result in the end. Man of the Match was Max Penney. Alderley Juniors lose 7- 4 in Quarterfinal of Cup (12 February 2006)Alderley Juniors were beaten by Wilmslow Albion in the quarterfinals of the Cup on a very wet and sandy pitch. Wilmslow Albion were first to the ball throughout the match and Alderley Juniors did not manage to make decisive tackles at the right times. For the first goal, Andy Metzelaar was beaten by an unfortunate rebound. Alderley then equalised with a superb free-kick from Alex Jackson. Wilmslow then scored again after some slick passing. Shortly afterwards Oliver Jones' persistence paid off and he duly scored. Just before half-time, Wilmslow again took the lead with a deflected shot. Half-time 2- 3. After the break Wilmslow increased their lead to 5 -2 after which Alex Jackson scored again with a crisp shot. The Alderley defence was at sixes and sevens again in the following ten minutes during which Wilmslow increased their lead to 7- 3. Sam Jafarian made the final score 7- 4 with a well-timed header. Alderley could have got closer, but the ball was cleared of the line in the final minute. A well deserved victory for Wilmslow Albion on the day. Man of the match for Alderley Juniors was Alex Jackson.
